About Rock County Nebraska
Rock County originated in 1888 after separating from Brown County. Bassett became the county seat that same year. The first courthouse, a frame building, was constructed in 1889. It was destroyed in a fire in 1897. A second courthouse served the county until the 1930s. In the fall of 1938 area businessmen appeared before the county board to request a special courthouse bond election. The issue passed and was added to funds provided by the federal Works Projects Administration. Construction began in 1939 and by 1940 the Art Deco-style courthouse was completed.
